  1. What is the objective of Australia Zoo?

The objective of Australia Zoo is to promote ‘Conservation through Exciting Education’. Our vision is that Australia Zoo will become the ultimate, global zoological destination and in doing so become world leaders in conservation, relating to both wildlife and their habitat. We strive to maintain excellence in animal welfare. We aim to maintain the highest level of passion and enthusiasm for wildlife, and to provide visitors with a superb and exciting experience!

  2. What is Australia Zoo’s philosophy on wildlife conservation?

We believe that the protection of animals and our native wildlife should be a priority. As more and more animal species become threatened by extinction, we must help to protect and advance our natural environment by raising awareness of wildlife issues and by providing information to the public. Australia Zoo is in the business of making connections between humans and animals. We are helping to forge not only an understanding, but a deep and genuine passion for our precious wildlife in people of all ages and backgrounds. Steve and Terri have always tried to create a heightened awareness about the problems our wildlife is facing through their documentaries, films, and appearances; and now our pint-sized Wildlife Warrior, Bindi, is helping to spread the conservation message too!

  3. What can visitors (children and adults) expect to experience at Australia Zoo?

Australia’s premier wildlife attraction keeps getting bigger and better! With over one thousand native and exotic animals, an army of Wildlife Warriors, an action-packed 24-hour wildlife hospital and one amazingly adventurous Irwin family, there is NEVER a dull moment at Australia Zoo. The crew packs in stacks of wildlife action every day – there are always plenty of exciting wildlife shows to see, friendly and knowledgeable zoo keepers to chat with and heaps of drop-dead gorgeous animals that can't wait to get up close and personal with YOU! If you've ever wanted to cuddle a koala, hand-feed an Asian Elephant, walk alongside a Bengal Tiger, wrap a snake around your shoulders or watch a massive Saltwater Crocodile launch a strike from the water's edge, then Australia Zoo is your ultimate destination.

  4. What makes Australia Zoo different to any other zoo?

There is no other zoo like Australia Zoo! We pack in stacks of wildlife action every day and move at a great rate of knots to bring you the most action-packed LIVE shows and exciting encounters with our amazing animals. Australia Zoo’s exhibits are works of art, architectural firsts, 5-star accommodation for our animals and unlike anything in any other zoo around the world. Each one of them is the brainchild of the one and only Steve Irwin; they were conceived in his mind and brought to life by the talented crew of designers, artists, builders and horticulturalists that he hand-picked and supervised.

Our Tiger Temple, built to resemble the famous Angkor Wat temple in Cambodia, is a work of art as well as an architectural first – it boasts the southern hemisphere's only underwater viewing of tigers and cheetahs. The Animal Planet Crocoseum is the fulfillment of one of Steve Irwin's lifelong dreams. Steve wanted to provide the visitors to Australia Zoo with the opportunity to see crocodiles in clear water ponds, in an action-packed show full of discovery and adventure. Elephantasia is Australia’s LARGEST Asian Elephant facility. Created in 2006 for Australia Zoo’s beautiful girls Siam, Sabu and Bimbo, this Asian-themed exhibit draws huge crowds for its FREE afternoon elephant feeding sessions every day.

Last year Terri also launched Steve’s Whale One – the only whale watching operator on the Sunshine Coast. Steve wanted to raise awareness about the atrocities of whale culling, and he decided the best way to do this was to increase awareness of the plight of these beautiful creatures.
In addition to all of this, Australia Zoo hosts heaps of entertainment, promotional days, and even external events, all of which make our zoo one ripper of a wildlife facility!

  5. Any special events coming up that visitors can take advantage of?
